There’s a reason European architecture and design still inspires a lot of interior design styles – the luxury feel and the old world charm of European design will forever make it a beautiful option for any home. This charm is why it is so prevalent in the interior design world today and why it has stood the test of time for hundreds of years.
European design is not, by any means, just a current trend. Influences from this style have shown up in many interior design trends over the last decades. For example, French country interiors are a blend of rustic and classical French design. Art Nouveau was created in Europe in the late 19th century and became Art Deco in the United States. The Baroque, Neoclassical, and Rococo periods of European design are the three that heavily influence today’s European architecture and design. As an East Texas interior designer, I am here to tell you that European style homes have been around forever – not just as a current interior design trend.

Elements of European Homes:
European homes pull elements from classic European architecture and design, sometimes in ways that you don’t realize! So many pieces of interior design are inspired by regional styles found in European design. Think French country homes, Mediterranean style homes, Tudor homes, and so much more.
As an overview, European homes commonly use materials like brick, stone, and stucco. High ceilings, steeply pitched roofs, and arched windows are common European architectural elements often used in home builds. A huge focus on European interior design is quality craftsmanship, and it is shown in small details like ornate trim.

Why Are European Homes Coming Back?
Again, in small ways, the influence of European design never really left! However, it’s coming back in a more prominent way now, and as an East Texas interior designer, these are my theories as to why:
-
It’s tried and true
In the last 10-15 years, all the trends you saw everywhere were white and grey walls, the Tuscan vibe, and the Farmhouse trend, and honestly, I think people are getting bored with that. It also has deterred people from wanting to do things that are trendy, and instead seek timelessness in their design. European design has stood the test of time and shows that it holds up against other trends that come and go!

-
People want more character
With the most recent interior design trends, home designs have been white and grey and lacking a lot of character. European design is far from lacking character, and instead infuses charm into every single part of your home. Small details are very important to European design, and doing things like adding ornate trim and adding unique patterns can be a game-changer for your European home.

-
It fits in with luxury homes
As an East Texas interior designer, I see (and design!) a lot of luxury homes. With how stunning and classic European design is, I see elements pop up in luxury homes constantly, because of the quality craftsmanship that goes into it.
