As a rule of thumb for interior design: the bigger, the better! This also goes for throw pillows, in most cases.

Why throw pillows?
Throw pillows add elegance and luxury to any interior design. Whether it’s a bedroom or living room, throw pillows will finish the look to make your design feel complete. Throw pillows also pose a great opportunity to add a pop of color or tie in other colors used in the design.

What are standard throw pillow sizes?
As an East Texas interior designer, the throw pillow sizes (in inches) that I use most frequently are 22x22 or 24x24. These sizes are versatile and easy to work with no matter the canvas you’re working with, and make a great bottom layer if you want to add smaller sphere or lumbar pillows on top.
A few throw pillows that we love the size and style of can be found below:
1 - The Jade Pillow
Jade is a great addition to add a modern art deco look and feel to a space. The geometric pattern creates layers of patterns while the neutral color palette tones it down and makes it easy to style with any color palette!
The Sabrina Tiger pillow not only makes a statement, but the visuals on this pillow adds the perfect neutral contrast. If you want to bring in a maximalism vibe into your space without adding too many colors, this is the perfect pillow for you!
Elevate your décor with the timeless beauty and plush comfort of our Bruno Velvet pillow—a perfect way to bring luxury and add warmth to your home.
Throw Pillow Size Guide for a Queen Bed:
If you’re looking for the best throw pillow size guide for a queen bed, there are two great options that will fit your bedroom interior design perfectly.
Option #1: Three 22x22 inch Throw Pillows
Using three 22x22 inch decorative pillows on top of two queen shams, then adding a 14x24 inch lumbar pillow OR sphere pillow creates one of the most perfect decorative pillow compositions for a queen bed.
Option #2:
If you want to opt for a little bit less, the second option uses two 24x24 inch throw pillows on top of two queen shams. With this layout, you still have the option of adding a lumbar pillow or sphere pillow as well!
Finding the perfect decorative pillow layouts for a queen bed is so important to the aesthetic your bedroom interior design gives off, so trying different options to find the best composition for your space is encouraged!

Throw Pillow Size Guide for a King Bed:
My personal favorite throw pillow composition for a king bed uses three 24x24 inch throw pillows on top of two king pillow shams, plus one small (14x24) lumbar pillow or round sphere pillow. This is the best tried and true composition method I have found in my time as a Dallas interior designer and love the elegance and luxury it adds to any master bedroom.
Throw Pillow Size Guide for Couches:
For couches, I generally like the less is more mentality and typically put no more than four throw pillows on one couch. I always tend to play with different heights, so I will always either start with two 24x24 inch pillows and then sometimes layer a 20x20 inch on top, or start with two 22x22 inch pillows and layer a sphere or lumbar pillow on top of one of them. This leaves more space on the couch while still adding more elements or textures to wrap up the living room interior design.
